NASA ASTRONAUT MICHAEL LOPEZ-ALEGRIA VISITS SPACE CAMP TÜRKİYE

NASA astronaut Michael Lopez-Alegria, who holds the American record of 10 spacewalks, visited Space Camp Türkiye July 4-10 and was a guest speaker during “E-Pal Week.” 

Astronaut Lopez-Alegria addressed nearly 150 students and teachers from Türkiye, USA, Canada, Latvia and Greece as part of the Partner School Science Program event on July 5. “Everyone must struggle to do their best according to their capabilities.  Serving as a pilot in the U.S. Navy, I always tried to do my best. When I saw a job application for an astronaut, I applied because of the wide range of abilities and experience that I had” said Lopez-Alegria.

Astronaut Lopez-Alegria holds the all-time American record for 10 space walks, totaling 67 hours and 40 minutes. He also holds the record for the longest space mission of any American astronaut of 215 days onboard the International Space Station.

Astronaut Lopez-Alegria is a veteran of three space shuttle missions and one international space station mission.  He holds a bachelor of science degree in systems engineering from the United States Naval Academy and a master of science degree in aeronautical engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School.  Additionally, he is a graduate of Harvard University ‘s  Kennedy School of Government  and is fluent in English, Spanish, French and Russian.
