Accounting for 4.2 billion dollars’ worth of trade volume per year, the Aegean Free Zone recycled 11 thousand 900 tons of waste back into the economy in 2019 using its zero-waste management system. This system ensured recycling of 3 thousand 500 tons of waste paper last year, saving 60 thousand trees from becoming raw material for paper. ESBAŞ Chief Executive Officer Dr. Faruk Güler emphasized that the space reserved for green areas is twice the size of building space in the Aegean Free Zone and that the dream of building an environment-friendly industrial zone full of green spaces has come true in Gaziemir. Guler added, “We do not allow companies to come and operate at the Aegean Free Zone if they have the potential of harming the environment. Our contracts with the user companies must include provisions against pollution. All of these practices have made it easier to implement zero waste management in our Zone.”
