June 30th marked the grand opening of “A Giant Is Born” exhibition, which showcases the establishment and development of the Aegean Free Zone and the ceaseless efforts of our late President Kaya Tuncer in achieving his vision. Present at the ceremony were ESBAS Chairwoman of the Board Mary Tuncer, as well as ESBAS Board Members Deniz Tuncer, Ed Mills, Larry Hymes, Aran Dakovna, President of Izmir Chamber of Commerce Ekrem Demirtaş, Deputy Governor of Izmir İbrahim Ballı and Director of Aegean Free Zone Şenay Satoğlu.
"Thanks to the extraordinary efforts of Project Manager Scott Woodham, Halime Buyukyuksel, Aysemine Konya, Serap Sonmez, Tamer Durmus and the ESBAS Technical Staff the exhibit turned out beautifully," said Chairwoman Mary Tuncer.
ESBAS CEO Dr. Faruk Güler also remarked about the exhibition, addressing Kaya Tuncer’s values and vision throughout the development of the Zone. “We tried to convey Mr. Kaya Tuncer’s vision through this exhibition, telling the development story of ESBAS since 1990. The name of the exhibition, “A Giant Is Born,” was derived from the headline of a newspaper article about ESBAS many years ago. Back then, there was almost no foreign investment in the country, the technology wasn’t as advanced and it was, in general, a time of underdevelopment. We set ambitious goals for the Aegean Free Zone and made sure to realize them all. This “giant” would not have materialized if it weren’t for those goals. At the present, we can all see how grand the giant grew. The Aegean Free Zone contributes significantly to all fields in Turkey. We will continue to take the Aegean Free Zone much further for sustainability of innovation and development,” said Dr. Güler.
