An international free zone and a modern industrial center
The Aegean Free Zone has been founded and being operated by ESBAS, a private sector company, based on "Build-Operate-Transfer" model since 1990. All infrastructure and necessary superstructure investments, energy, water, telecommunication, natural gas, loading, unloading, haulage, portage and 24-hour support services as well as fire station, meals and all municipal services are provided by ESBAS.
The Aegean Free Zone is located in the Gaziemir district of Izmir and encompasses an area of 2.2 million m2. The Zone is at a distance of 4 km to Adnan Menderes Airport, 12 km to Port of Izmir and only 1 km to highway networks. Today, all infrastructure works have been completed in an area of 1.500.00 m2 where a total of 240 companies, 71 of which are foreign, are operational. Generating a total trade volume of $ 2.7 billion for the year 2009, the Zone has a cumulative trade volume of $ 36 billion since the beginning of its inauguration. Employment in the Aegean Free Zone has reached 15.000 people. The Aegean Free Zone holds 1/3 of the total employment and investment generated in all 20 free zones in Turkey.
Aviation, avionics, aerospace, medical devices and pharmaceutical, electronics, automotive supply industry, machinery production and assembly, sensitive measuring equipment, metal joints and kitchen cabinet production, textile and food processing and packaging are among the prominent sectors in the production-based Aegean Free Zone. Most common commercial products are textile products, apparels, heavy construction equipment and durable consumer goods.
