ESBAS is located in Izmir (about an hour south of Istanbul). Izmir is Turkey's 3rd largest city (3.7 million population) and the Country's second largest commercial center (Izmir accounts for 9% of Turkey's total industrial production; 4% of Turkey's imports and 6% of its exports).
Because of its fine port (12 million tons annually), modern international airport (9 million passengers), and efficient rail and road connections to Europe, Asia and the Middle East, Izmir has attracted more than 4,000 export companies generating 4% of Turkey's imports and 6% of its exports. Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Izmir has increased ten-fold between 2004 and 2007. The median age in the City is 32. 52% of the labor force is engaged in the Service Sector; 31% in Industry; and 17% in Agriculture.
Izmir is also a wonderful place to enjoy life. It is a beautiful modern City with palm-lined promenades, European style boulevards, fine hotels and an exceptionally mild climate. Circling the City are the fabled ancient sites of Ephesus, Pergamum and Troy. And never far away are the spectacular and unspoiled beaches and resorts of the bucolic Aegean Coast.
