The Institutions in Aegean Free Zone and Their Duties

1. Aegean Free Zone Directorate:It works under the supervision of the Foreign Trade Office Free Zone General Directorate.

Duties:

  • It administers the area,
  • It controls the concessions given by Free Zone General Management (SBGM),
  • It assures the proper accounting and control of the funds which are collected as a result of goods entering the free zone from abroad, and goods exiting the free zone to Turkey,
  • It coordinates the establishment of new business entities within the free zone,
  • It gives permits for entrance,
  • It keeps users registers,
  • It gives licenses for the usage of temporary warehouse and open areas.

2. Custom Directorate: It works under the supervision of the Prime Ministry Customs Office.

Duties:

  • It administers the decisions given by the Prime Ministry Customs Office,
  • It carries out all kinds of importation, exportation, and transit customs processes,
  • It assures the administration of assessed fines and punishments,
  • It ensures against smuggling activity according to the 1981 numbered law,
  • It controls the permits given for the importation and the exportation of goods,
  • It ensures proper inspection and consignment of goods exiting the free zone and it also keeps records of all goods entering the free zone.

3. Customs Protection Administration:

Duties:

  • Takes precautions to prevent smuggling activities,
  • Controls documentation,
  • Controls the vehicles which enter and leave the free zone.

4. Security Forces:Assigned by the governor.

Duties:

  • To have a sufficient number of police on the area border, entrance, and exit doors,
  • To take special precautions to maintain public order and security within the free zone,
  • To take appropriate corrective action in the event of any disturbance.
